Reaction Kinetics and Mixing Fronts for Arbitrary Damkohler Numbers
Abstract
Mixing fronts between two reactive species subjected to velocity fields is considered. First, an analytical framework based on the lamella framework is developed to study the influence of linear shear on the front between two species reacting through a bimolecular reaction kinetics. Based on these considerations, we obtain analytically a phase diagram of operation based on the relative strengths of diffusion, advection and reaction kinetics. It is then attempted to extend this simple physical situation to a general numerical framework which can handle any arbitrary flow field. We incorporate a dynamic material line refinement scheme to capture the filament dynamics of a reactive lamella. We demonstrate the capability of the proposed method for the cases of a point vortex and chaotic sine flow.dom flow and various mass-action reaction kinetics.
