Global hybrid simulation of highly compressed magnetosphere events at Mercury
Résumé
The highly compressed magnetosphere (HCM) events at Mercury observed by the MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry, and Ranging (MESSENGER) spacecraft have been investigated using the global hybrid simulation named LatHyS. The HCM events occur due to the coronal mass ejections (CMEs) or high-speed stream s (HSSs) and previous studies indicate that not only the reconnection-driven erosion but also the induced current in the inner core have an important role in the variation of dayside magnetosphere. In this study, the magnetospheric ions (e.g., H+, Na+) are implemented in LatHyS to be adapted to Mercury's environment and several solar wind dynamic pressure, including disappearing dayside magnetosphere cases, have been considered. The effects of the presence of magnetospheric ions as well as the ion kinetic effects on the variation of the magnetosphere will be discussed.
