Oxygen isotopic ratios in Martian water vapour: vertical profiles from ACS-MIR on ExoMars TGO

Isotopic ratios in H, Ar and N in Mars show an enrichment of the heavier isotopes with respect to the lighter ones, as compared to the Earth. This has been ofter understood as evidence of a substantial escape of the Martian atmosphere into escape. On the other hand, oxygen appears not show a substantial enrichment like the other gases, which indicates the presence of a reservoir of oxygen to exchange with the atmosphere. Using observations from the Atmospheric Chemistry Suite onboard ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter, we can measure vertical profiles of these oxygen ratios for the first time. The large number of observations being obtained by ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter allows an in-depth analysis of the ratio, and will provide a further understanding of how it varies.
